Hi, I’m Ben Breen. I’ve been helping startups to billion dollar brands make ideas happen since 1985.
This is my personal blog. It’s focused on helping you make your ideas happen.
My mission is to make it easier for you to bring your ideas to life, so you can do what matters.
Do you dream of escaping the corporate cubicle to do something meaningful? Are you struggling to start or grow your own business? What would you give to become a full-time independent artist?
Ben shows you the way into an incredibly exciting world of possibilities where you have the potential and tools to realise your dreams & goals.” ~ Josephine Knight, International Cellist
The industrial age is over, and the gatekeepers have gone. Software is eating the world, and the robots are coming. Your job is about to disappear…
The good news is that anyone with a smartphone & wifi can now connect an idea to anyone else… and so bring it to life. The cost of entry? Learning to be more creative and more entrepreneurial. Taking responsibility and being comfortable with uncertainty also come into it.
I write about mindset, starting startups, building a profitable audience, and freeing-up time through automation. You are, or aspire to be an entrepreneur, an independent artist, or a business-minded freelancer.
My goal is to open your eyes to the opportunities, and equip you with practical strategies & easy-to-use tools to help you to make your ideas happen and do what matters.
I intend to provide 80% of the value I have to offer for free on this blog. To make sure you don’t miss a thing then you need to sign-up for my email newsletter to be the first to get updates straight to your inbox.
If you want to go deeper, then I offer through my company, Engorah:
- Coaching in how to find an audience for a new product, service or project - without wasting time or money
- A zero-hassle service to get you up-and-running with a modern website that will attract potential customers, clients or fans – on an innovative ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis
- A consulting service to help you free-up more time for the big picture by automating the routine aspects of your business
I learned to code at school in 1979 before doing a computer science degree.
While at small tech companies, consultancies and corporates I built and shipped technology products to thousands of users. I did everything from programming to product management, and marketing to sales. Inside and out.
I built & led teams (of up to 150) to make business change happen at dozens of the worlds biggest corporations like JP Morgan, Reuters and British Airways. Otherwise known as herding cats.
As an ‘inside’ entrepreneur (a so-called ‘intrapreneur‘) I created tens of millions of dollars of value for clients and employers from scratch, over and over again.
Ben is a creative problem solver who is as confident at evaluating the wider ranging implications of a project as focusing in on specific details. Ben immerses himself in his work with passion and enthusiasm that borders on the contagious!” ~ Heidi Earle, former VP of JP Morgan bank
Though technically ‘employed’ during this time, I spent the whole time building & shipping products & projects: creating or changing things that had never been done before.
I escaped my last ‘proper job’ as Vice President of JP Morgan investment bank in 2001 to become an entrepreneur & consultant. (I should have started way sooner but that’s another story)
Until 2010, I worked as an independent consultant to investment banks & founded two companies where I helped entrepreneurs to executives of Fortune 100 companies organise their teams and technology to make their ideas happen.
Since 2010 I’ve redesigned my life and work around what matters, like spending quality time with family and friends.
In the process, I’ve been lucky enough to have discovered and learn from some of the most incredibly inspiring people imaginable. (You’ll get to learn about them on this blog)
I now run my businesses and online projects from wherever I happen to be. And I help others do the same. My aim is to pass on what I’ve learned here on the blog. If you want to go deeper then check out my coaching, consulting & software services here.
… in recent years Ben has focussed on entrepreneurial online businesses and demonstrated in my mind an unparalleled clarity of thinking and vision.” ~ Mike Buck, award-winning CIO at Fortune 500 companies
I’m the son of visual artists, a husband and father of two. I do this in London. Much as I love my work, family come first. I also love cooking, running, visual art, music, tai chi & loose leaf tea.
