What do Cricket, Technology & the Truman Show have in Common?
Cricket has to be one of the most conservative and traditional of games. Nothing could be further from the clutches of technology…
Yet, as I write this, I’m listening to the closing stages of the first of this year’s Ashes test matches between England and Australia. I’m listening over internet radio on my computer.
Literally, as I write, the commentators are discussing a crucial so-called ‘review‘. This is where the officials fall-back on ball-tracking, infra-red imaging and audio technology to decide very tight situations. (As it happens, the technology has decided that England win the match.)
What does this have to do with you and me?
Well, a few weeks ago I was invited to write for a new online magazine called Medium. It’s currently an invite-only platform set-up by the founders of Twitter. The idea is that articles are based around themes and can be commented on and recommended by readers.
I published my first article over at Medium last week.
It’s called Escape Your Truman Show and it’s about how technology is now shaping our world in virtually every way imaginable – what that means for all of us, and what we can do about it. Hint: doing nothing is not a great idea.
I’d love to know what you think if you can spare the 4 minutes that Medium predict it will take. Either leave a comment over there, or right here.
